Big Data (huge amounts of data that can be analysed to reveal trends and associations) continues to be a hot topic for this year and beyond, with monthly Google searches for ‘big data’ alone estimated to be hundreds of thousands worldwide.

Here’s the latest in our 4D Awards series, looking at the 6 Big Data blogs you should be reading in 2019.

Datameer

Datameer

Founder, Stefan Groschupf, has always held a fascination with text data in particular and creating functionality around it. The technology behind the rise of Datameer (among other leading Big Data companies) is Hadoop, an open-source framework which manages processing and storage for data applications. Through this innovative adoption, Datameer now sits as a global leader in data analytics.

One of the blog’s highlights, as noted by our judging panel, was practical knowledge on maintaining and handling applications for business.

Business over BroadwayBusiness Over Broadway

Business over Broadway’s President, Bob Hayes, was named in the 50 top digital influencers to follow in 2019. The data expert has a wealth of impressive research under his belt, including studies on customer loyalty and compelling findings on the roles and associated skills sets of data scientists.

We’re fortunate enough to have his expert insights in the form of free articles, some revealing fascinating findings on customer behaviour.

SQreamSQream

If you look hard enough on the SQream website, you’ll find a few random facts, including what is apparently a favourite tipple during happy hour.

On a more serious note, the SQream database uses incredible processing power to provide data analysis for leading organisations within telecom, finance, healthcare and other industries. The Big Data blog itself combines extensive knowledge, backed by powerful data, which makes compelling reading, especially for those involved within marketing.

Cloudera

Cloudera

Back in 2008, when cloud technology exploded in popularity, three engineers from Google, Yahoo! and Facebook, plus a former Oracle executive joined forces to form the US-based software giant, Cloudera. The company’s blog features both technical and business orientated articles. Among the features our panel particularly liked was that content connects the use of data-driven techniques with real-world events. Also, as a technical feature, the ability to filter down by subject makes browsing this blog all the more enjoyable.

KDNuggetsKDNuggets

KD Nuggets was listed in Whizlabs’ Top 20 Influencers in Big Data and Analytics for 2018-19 and frequently appears among the top influencers in Big Data. Its president, Gregory Piatetsky-Shapiro, is never too cautious when talking about the importance of Big Data, once quoting it as “…no less significant than the second Industrial Revolution”. This rings true throughout their broad content, featuring a range of guest writers and content backed by extensive knowledge and research.

Cognitive ClassCognitive Class

Formerly known as Big Data University, Cognitive Class offers free online courses which address shortages in IT skills. On its blog, contributors combine to provide news and research findings in data science, well-geared towards those looking to forge a career within data science.
